They arrive curious — and leave with a skill for life, and real pride in what they made.
Maybe you've wondered whether your child will enjoy sewing, have the patience for it, or even manage a sewing machine.
Our students always surprise us. They discover something they never knew they'd love — and suddenly, they can't wait for their next class.
Some children learn best when they're doing, making and exploring. Give them something exciting to create, and you might be amazed at how naturally their focus, patience and creativity begin to grow.
So much of a child's day is filled with instructions, routines and right-or-wrong answers. Sewing gives their minds a different kind of workout — a chance to slow down, explore their imagination.
Crooked stitches, little mistakes, starting over — it's all part of the fun. They discover that they can do difficult things, one stitch at a time.

Did you know that Gert-Johan Coetzee, one of South Africa's most celebrated fashion designers, began his sewing journey with us at just 11 years old?
His mother was nervous, but she saw something special in her little boy and decided to give him a chance.
And from his very first class, he knew he had found his passion.
They came to try something new. They stayed because they fell in love with it. Sometimes, all it takes is one class to discover a passion that lasts a lifetime.

My daughter is honestly a changed girl. Her concentration has improved so much, and her self-esteem… I don't even know where to start. She had some coordination difficulties and we tried other hobby classes before, but she never really enjoyed them. Now she's 12 and doing things that most of us adults can't even do. She's running sewing machines, ironing her own things and using all these professional sewing words that the rest of us don't even understand. Sewing has also really helped with her anxiety and she feels so comfortable in the class. Honestly, when I look at her now and how far she's come, it brings tears to my eyes. We're so, so proud of her.Nokuthula Zulu

My son and I actually did the sewing class together, and to be honest, he did better than me! It was such a lovely bonding experience for the two of us. He made his own drawstring bag, which already impressed me because neither of us had sewn before. Then recently I mentioned that my pants were too long. The stitching was so neat I couldn't believe it. To say I was proud is an understatement.Priya Naidoo

Starting right from the beginning, we teach them:
You’ve heard what the parents have to say. Now step inside our classroom and hear from a young sewer herself — sharing exactly why she can’t get enough of sewing!

She began as a beginner, like every child does. A few years on she’d made an entire collection — and sewed her own matric dress, with Fatima beside her.
She’s the fashion designer of her family now.
I'm Fatima Fazal, founder of Sew & Grow, and sewing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My mother ran a sewing school, and by the tender age of 12, I was already teaching advanced sewing! So you could say the passion to see others grow in sewing is quite literally in my blood.
Over the past 40+ years, I've sewn everything from beautiful quilts to couture and wedding gowns, and had the privilege of guiding more than 10,000 students.
And that's exactly what I want every little designer at Sew & Grow to experience.
She’s only 15. An overlocker runs four threads and trims as it sews. Layla uses one to finish the pockets on her own trousers. Five years ago she walked in unsure she’d even enjoy sewing.
