I'm Fatima Fazal, founder of Sew & Grow. I didn't just learn sewing — I grew up in it.
My mother ran a sewing school, and from a young age I was surrounded by fabric, machines, and students learning every day. From the age of 12, I was already helping beginners find their way.
Over the years, I've worked on every level of sewing — from quilts and home pieces, to elegant evening wear, wedding gowns, and exquisite couture. I've seen sewing in its simplest form, and at its highest level.
I've also had the privilege of guiding students who have gone on to do incredible things — including Gert-Johan Coetzee, who came to me at just 11 years old, eager to learn the true art of sewing.
Through all of this, one thing became clear to me: people don't fail at sewing — they're just not taught the right way. So I created a simple, step-by-step system that makes learning feel natural — and actually works. Today, this system is used across Sew & Grow to guide every class and every student.
