Sewing Teacher Application
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Sewing Teacher to instruct students of all levels in sewing techniques, pattern making, and garment construction.
A strong, confident understanding of sewing is mandatory and non-negotiable. Candidates who are not fully competent in their sewing abilities will not be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with pattern-making experience.

Requirements
- Proven experience in sewing and pattern making
- Candidates must be energetic and comfortable being on their feet during working hours (with reasonable breaks), actively moving between and assisting multiple students; this role requires stamina and is not suited to individuals who tire easily

Salary
- Salary range: R10,000 – R14,000 per month
- Probationary period: R8,000

Key Responsibilities & Skills
- Teach sewing fundamentals through to advanced techniques, including garment construction and pattern making
- Guide and support students with patience and adaptability to different learning styles
- Confident use of sewing machines and overlockers
- Maintain strong classroom engagement and manage multiple students effectively
- Demonstrate professionalism, focus, and consistency in a hands-on teaching environment

Initial Assessment
- All candidates must complete a 1 to 2 week paid training and assessment period, conducted in a real working environment
- This period is intended to evaluate existing competency and teaching ability, not to provide foundational sewing training
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate a strong, working knowledge of sewing and pattern making from the outset
- Assessment will focus on the ability to teach clearly, guide students effectively, and demonstrate techniques with confidence and precision
- Only candidates who meet Sew & Grow’s required standard will progress to the probation phase

Location
Melville, Johannesburg
Applicants must be able to commute daily and should ideally reside within a 10km radius of Melville to ensure reliability and ease of commuting.

Position Details
- Full-time position
- Monday to Saturday
- 4-hour or 8-hour shifts (to be discussed during the interview)
