Enrolment
Before any learner’s lesson times can be reserved, the official Sew & Grow Enrolment Form must be fully completed and signed.
Upon enrolment, the learner is considered enrolled for the selected course and agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
Enrolment secures a place within the selected course, subject to class availability, scheduling requirements and payment obligations.
This Enrolment Agreement shall apply to the learner’s current enrolment and to all future courses, workshops, programmes, memberships and services undertaken with Sew & Grow, unless Sew & Grow issues a revised Enrolment Agreement or requires a new agreement to be completed.
By enrolling in any future Sew & Grow course, workshop, programme or membership, the learner acknowledges that they remain bound by the most recent version of this Enrolment Agreement in force at the time of such enrolment.
Sew & Grow reserves the right to amend or update these Terms and Conditions from time to time. The most recent version published by Sew & Grow shall apply to all future enrolments and services unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Sew & Grow reserves the right to accept or decline any enrolment where reasonable operational, safety or capacity considerations require it.
Fees & Payment Terms
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, all course fees must be paid before classes commence.
Where an approved payment arrangement has been made, payments must be made strictly in accordance with that agreement.
Proof of payment must be emailed to info@sewandgrow.co.za.
Payment references must clearly include the learner’s full name and surname.
All course fees include enrolment unless otherwise stated.
Course fees are not pro-rated for missed lessons.
Course fees paid to Sew & Grow are strictly for the provision of sewing tuition and related educational services. Course fees, unused lesson balances, course credits or any portion thereof may not be exchanged, converted or redeemed for:
- sewing machines;
- overlockers;
- embroidery machines;
- fabrics;
- haberdashery;
- notions;
- sewing accessories;
- equipment;
- tools;
- retail products; or
- any other goods or merchandise sold or supplied by Sew & Grow.
Overlocker threading lessons are excluded from standard courses and may be booked separately at the applicable fee.
Learners enrolled in the Sewing Club may be required to complete a Debit Order Authorisation Form.
Sewing Club memberships remain subject to the separate Sewing Club Terms and Conditions contained within this Agreement.
Curriculum, Project Completion & Time Allocation
Courses have been structured to enable learners to complete all prescribed projects within the allocated class hours based on an average learning pace.
Where a learner completes all prescribed projects before the scheduled completion date, any remaining class time shall be forfeited.
Unused lessons, hours or class allocations may not be transferred to another learner, exchanged for cash or carried over to another course unless otherwise approved by Sew & Grow.
Where a learner does not complete the required projects within the allocated course duration, additional classes may be booked at the prevailing rates.
Use of Personal Sewing Machines
Learners are encouraged to use Sew & Grow sewing machines during classes to ensure consistency of instruction and maintain the standard class pace.
Learners who wish to use their own sewing machine during classes are required to first complete a separate operational and orientation session for that machine.
The operational session is charged separately and must be completed before a personal machine may be used during classes.
The use of personal sewing machines during class remains subject to the approval of the instructor.
Attendance, Bookings & Missed Lessons
Learners are expected to attend all scheduled classes for their enrolled course.
Regular attendance is essential for successful progression and completion of the course within the allocated course duration.
Once a lesson has been booked, that lesson forms part of the learner’s allocated course hours and is regarded as reserved exclusively for that learner.
If a learner does not attend a booked lesson, the lesson shall be regarded as attended and deducted from the learner’s course allocation unless the booking was cancelled in accordance with Clause 6.
Repeated absences may delay the learner’s progress and completion of the course.
Sew & Grow reserves the right to manage learner placement, class schedules and instructor allocation in accordance with operational requirements and class capacity.
Booking, Cancellations & Catch-Up Lessons
Once enrolled, learners will receive access to Sew & Grow’s booking system and are responsible for booking their own lessons.
All lesson bookings must be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled class.
Where a learner is unable to attend a booked lesson, the booking must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the scheduled lesson.
Where a learner:
- fails to cancel a booked lesson at least 24 hours before the scheduled class; or
- does not attend a booked lesson,
the lesson shall be regarded as attended, deducted from the learner’s course allocation, and shall not qualify for a catch-up lesson.
Where a booked lesson is cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice, Sew & Grow may offer a catch-up lesson, subject to instructor availability, class capacity and scheduling requirements. Catch-up lessons are offered as a courtesy only and are not guaranteed.
Lessons booked on Saturdays that are missed or cancelled may not be made up on subsequent Saturdays and remain subject to Sew & Grow’s scheduling availability.
Refunds, Cancellations & Course Credit
7.1 General Principles
All cancellation requests must be submitted to Sew & Grow in writing.
Refunds are assessed according to the stage of enrolment, lesson bookings, scheduling allocation and course commencement.
Registration and enrolment fees are strictly non-refundable.
7.2 Cancellation Within 24 Hours of Enrolment
Where a learner cancels within 24 hours of enrolment, and before:
- booking any classes;
- receiving scheduling allocation;
- completing onboarding; or
- commencing the course,
the learner may qualify for a refund.
Approved refunds shall be subject to the following deductions:
- a cancellation and administration fee equal to 10% of the total course fee, subject to a minimum administration fee of R350;
- payment processing fees;
- banking charges; and
- any non-recoverable third-party transaction costs already incurred.
The administration fee covers reasonable costs associated with enrolment processing, payment administration, operational preparation and learner onboarding.
7.3 Cancellation After 24 Hours (No Lessons Booked)
Where cancellation is requested more than 24 hours after enrolment, but before any lessons have been booked or scheduled and before course commencement, a 15% cancellation fee shall apply.
The remaining balance, after the applicable deductions, may be refunded.
7.4 Cancellation After Lessons Have Been Booked
Where a learner has booked or reserved lesson times but has not yet attended the first class, a 30% cancellation fee shall apply.
The cancellation fee reflects the operational costs associated with:
- reserved class placement;
- scheduling allocation;
- instructor planning;
- administrative processing; and
- limited course capacity.
7.5 Course Commencement
For the purposes of this Agreement, a course shall be regarded as having commenced once the learner has:
- attended any class;
- participated in any lesson;
- commenced practical training; or
- utilised any portion of the course.
Once a course has commenced, monetary refunds shall no longer be available.
At its sole discretion, Sew & Grow may consider:
- course credit;
- deferred attendance; or
- transfer to another eligible Sew & Grow course,
where circumstances reasonably justify such accommodation.
Any approved course credit:
- is non-refundable;
- is non-transferable;
- may only be used by the enrolled learner; and
- remains valid for the applicable course validity period communicated upon enrolment.
Failure to attend classes, personal scheduling conflicts, change of mind or non-utilisation of booked lessons shall not automatically entitle the learner to a refund, course credit or transfer.
Loss, Damage & Liability
Learners are responsible for their own personal belongings while attending Sew & Grow. Sew & Grow accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft or damage of any personal property brought onto the premises.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sew & Grow, its directors, employees, instructors and representatives shall not be held liable for any injury, accident or loss suffered by a learner while participating in classes, except where such loss or injury results directly from gross negligence or wilful misconduct on the part of Sew & Grow.
The learner, or where applicable the parent or legal guardian, indemnifies Sew & Grow against claims arising from the learner’s own negligence, misuse of equipment or failure to follow instructor guidance.
Intellectual Property & Ownership
All course content, lesson plans, teaching methods, training systems, worksheets, patterns, demonstrations, videos, photographs, images, templates, business processes, branding, logos, course structures, educational methodologies and all other materials provided by Sew & Grow remain the exclusive intellectual property of Sew & Grow Sewing School.
Without Sew & Grow’s prior written consent, learners may not:
- copy or reproduce any course material;
- record classes, demonstrations or lessons;
- distribute, upload or publish any Sew & Grow material;
- share course content with third parties;
- use Sew & Grow material for teaching, training or commercial purposes;
- create derivative courses or educational content based substantially on Sew & Grow’s materials;
- establish, assist in establishing or operate a sewing school, workshop, training centre or similar business using Sew & Grow’s intellectual property.
No Sew & Grow material may be sold, licensed, rented or otherwise commercially exploited without prior written consent.
Any unauthorised use of Sew & Grow’s intellectual property shall constitute a material breach of this Agreement and may result in:
- immediate termination of enrolment;
- withdrawal of course access;
- legal action;
- claims for damages; and
- any other remedies available in law.
Staff Non-Solicitation & Non-Circumvention
All instructors, facilitators and staff members are engaged exclusively by Sew & Grow to provide training through Sew & Grow programmes.
During enrolment and for a period of twelve (12) months thereafter, learners may not:
- employ or engage any Sew & Grow instructor privately;
- request private lessons outside Sew & Grow;
- arrange training directly with Sew & Grow staff;
- attempt to bypass Sew & Grow administration; or
- use personal communication with staff to obtain services outside Sew & Grow.
Any breach of this clause may result in:
- immediate termination of enrolment;
- forfeiture of outstanding classes;
- claims for damages suffered by Sew & Grow; and
- legal proceedings where appropriate.
Learner Support & Special Needs
Learners, parents or guardians must disclose any learning difficulties, disabilities, medical conditions or special support requirements at the time of enrolment.
Sew & Grow will make reasonable efforts to accommodate learners requiring additional support where reasonably possible.
Learners requiring additional support may require extra classes or extended training time to complete the course.
Additional support lessons remain payable at the applicable rates.
Photography & Marketing Consent
Photographs and videos may be taken during classes for Sew & Grow marketing and promotional purposes.
Images may be used on:
- the Sew & Grow website;
- social media platforms;
- printed marketing material;
- brochures; and
- promotional campaigns.
Adult learners who do not wish to appear in photographs or videos must notify Sew & Grow before or at the commencement of class.
Photographs or videos of learners under the age of eighteen (18) shall only be used with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
Sew & Grow will use all photographs and recordings responsibly and will not intentionally publish personal information without additional consent.
Teacher Allocation & Communication
Teacher allocation is determined solely by Sew & Grow based on scheduling, availability, learner numbers and operational requirements.
Learners may request a preferred instructor. Sew & Grow will make reasonable efforts to accommodate such requests but cannot guarantee any specific teacher.
Learners may not privately arrange lessons, scheduling or course changes directly with instructors.
Any concerns relating to instructors or classes must be raised directly with Sew & Grow management using the official contact channels.
Code of Conduct
Learners are expected to conduct themselves respectfully towards instructors, staff and fellow learners at all times.
The following behaviour is prohibited:
- abusive language;
- intimidation;
- harassment;
- discrimination;
- bullying;
- threatening behaviour;
- disruption of classes;
- deliberate damage to equipment or facilities;
- behaviour that interferes with the learning experience of others.
Learners must comply with all reasonable instructions given by Sew & Grow instructors relating to safety, equipment use and classroom management.
Care of Sew & Grow Property & Equipment
Learners must exercise reasonable care when using Sew & Grow sewing machines, overlockers, embroidery machines, cutting equipment, tools, furniture and classroom facilities.
Where equipment or property is damaged through negligence, reckless behaviour, deliberate misuse or intentional misconduct, the learner may be held responsible for the reasonable cost of repair or replacement.
Normal wear and tear, accidental damage occurring during ordinary supervised use or mechanical failure shall not automatically result in liability on the part of the learner.
Right to Refuse or Terminate Enrolment
Sew & Grow reserves the right to refuse any application for enrolment where it reasonably considers that acceptance would not be in the best interests of the learner, other learners, staff, or the effective operation of the school.
Sew & Grow reserves the right to suspend or terminate a learner’s enrolment with immediate effect where the learner or, where applicable, the parent or legal guardian:
- breaches any provision of this Agreement;
- repeatedly fails to make payments when due;
- provides false or misleading information during enrolment;
- engages in abusive, threatening, intimidating, discriminatory or inappropriate behaviour towards staff, instructors or other learners;
- deliberately damages Sew & Grow property or equipment;
- repeatedly disrupts classes or interferes with the learning environment;
- breaches Sew & Grow’s Intellectual Property rights;
- attempts to privately engage or solicit Sew & Grow staff contrary to this Agreement; or
- acts in a manner that, in Sew & Grow’s reasonable opinion, compromises the safety, wellbeing or learning experience of others.
Where enrolment is terminated as a result of the learner’s breach of this Agreement, Sew & Grow shall not be obliged to provide any refund, credit or compensation.
Force Majeure
Sew & Grow shall not be liable for any delay, interruption, postponement or inability to provide classes where such circumstances arise from events beyond its reasonable control.
These events include, but are not limited to:
- natural disasters;
- flooding;
- fire;
- severe weather conditions;
- pandemics or public health emergencies;
- government regulations or restrictions;
- strikes or labour disputes;
- civil unrest;
- national or regional emergencies;
- electricity failures or load shedding;
- internet or communication failures;
- equipment failure;
- instructor illness or incapacity; or
- any other event beyond Sew & Grow’s reasonable control.
Where reasonably possible, Sew & Grow will make reasonable efforts to reschedule affected classes or provide suitable alternative arrangements.
Force Majeure events shall not automatically entitle learners to refunds, compensation or cancellation without the applicable cancellation provisions contained in this Agreement.
Sewing Club Terms & Conditions
18.1 Application of this Agreement
Unless specifically varied by this Clause 18, all other provisions of this Enrolment Agreement apply equally to Sewing Club members, including but not limited to:
- Enrolment;
- Fees and Payment Terms;
- Attendance, Bookings and Missed Lessons;
- Refunds, Cancellations & Course Credit;
- Loss, Damage & Liability;
- Intellectual Property & Ownership;
- Staff Non-Solicitation & Non-Circumvention;
- Learner Support & Special Needs;
- Photography & Marketing Consent;
- Teacher Allocation & Communication;
- Code of Conduct;
- Care of Sew & Grow Property & Equipment;
- Right to Refuse or Terminate Enrolment; and
- Force Majeure.
This Clause 18 contains the additional terms that apply specifically to Sewing Club memberships.
Where any provision contained in this Clause 18 conflicts with another provision of this Agreement, the provisions of this Clause 18 shall prevail only to the extent of that conflict.
18.2 Attendance Option & Minimum Commitment Period
Upon enrolment, the learner shall select an attendance option indicating the number of classes to be attended each month.
The selected attendance option determines both the monthly membership fee and the applicable minimum commitment period.
The applicable minimum commitment periods are:
- 16 classes per month – Minimum commitment of 6 months
- 12 classes per month – Minimum commitment of 8 months
- 8 classes per month – Minimum commitment of 12 months
The learner acknowledges that the selected attendance option constitutes a minimum contractual commitment.
Where a learner chooses to cancel their Sewing Club membership before completing the applicable minimum commitment period, such cancellation shall constitute an early cancellation and the learner shall remain liable for the early cancellation fee set out in Clause 18.5.
18.3 Debit Order (Preferred Payment Method)
Monthly Sewing Club fees are payable by debit order.
Learners are required to complete a Debit Order Authorisation Form unless they elect to utilise the manual payment option described below.
18.4 Manual Payment Option
Learners who elect not to pay by debit order may pay monthly by EFT or cash.
Manual payments shall attract a monthly administration fee of R150 to cover manual invoicing, payment processing and administration.
Manual payments must be made in advance by the payment due date communicated by Sew & Grow.
18.5 Failed Debit Orders
Where a debit order fails for any reason, the learner shall:
- settle the full monthly membership fee via EFT within 48 hours; and
- pay the applicable manual administration fee.
Sew & Grow does not re-submit or re-debit failed debit orders.
18.6 Early Cancellation
Where a learner cancels their Sewing Club membership before completing the applicable minimum commitment period, an early cancellation fee shall become payable.
The early cancellation fee shall be the greater of:
- two (2) months’ Sewing Club membership fees; or
- the difference between the discounted Sewing Club membership rate paid and the applicable standard class rate for the period attended.
The early cancellation fee becomes immediately due and payable upon cancellation.
Early cancellation does not waive any outstanding membership fees, failed payments or any other amounts owing under the applicable minimum commitment period.
18.7 Attendance, Missed Classes & Cancellation After the Commitment Period
Upon completion of the applicable minimum commitment period, the Sewing Club membership shall continue on a month-to-month basis unless terminated by either party.
Following completion of the minimum commitment period, membership may be cancelled by providing one full calendar month’s written notice.
Membership fees are based upon the number of classes booked each month and not upon the number of classes attended.
Missed classes:
- are not refundable;
- do not reduce membership fees; and
- do not alter the learner’s contractual obligations.
Where a booked class is cancelled with at least 24 hours’ notice, Sew & Grow may offer a catch-up class, subject to instructor availability and class capacity.
Catch-up classes may only be attended while the learner’s Sewing Club membership remains active and fully paid.
Unused catch-up classes shall lapse upon cancellation or termination of membership.
18.8 Non-Payment
Where payment, including any applicable administration fee, is not received within 48 hours of the due date:
- the learner’s membership may be suspended;
- the learner’s reserved place may be forfeited; and
- the original enrolment fee shall be forfeited.
Should the learner wish to return to the Sewing Club, a new enrolment application together with payment of the applicable enrolment fee shall be required, subject to availability.
Non-payment does not terminate the learner’s contractual obligations or waive any outstanding amounts payable under the applicable minimum commitment period.
